    The Reykjavik Marathon is an annual running event, established in 1984. The 2013 Islandsbanki Reykjavik Marathon takes place on Saturday August 24th. Registration for the race will open in January 2013.

    The Reykjavik Culture Night is an annual event, held in the city of Reykjavik since 1996. The Reykjavik Marathon and the Reykjavik Culture Night take place on the same day, Saturday August 24th
  • „The cleanest course I´ve ever run”

What speed do you plan to be running at?

In the Islandsbanki Reykjavik Marathon 2012 runners are offered help to reach their goals in the 10 km run, halfmarathon and marathon. Pace makers will these distances at an even speed. They will be wearing marked vests and carrying balloons so that runners can follow them. 


Pace makers have been offered in the Reykjavik Marathon since the year 2009. Then it was available for participants in in the 10 km run and were runners very pleased with this. Therefore pace makers have been a part of the Reykjavik Marathon since. In the run 2010 pace makers were both in half marathon and 10 km. Last year pace makers were also added to the marathon.


The pace makers are all trained runners that will run at the following times:


10 km

45 minutes Gísli Páll Reynisson og Þorsteinn Magnússon
50 minutes Björn Ragnarsson og Daði Garðarsson
55 minutes Ásta Laufey Aðalsteinsdóttir og Borghildur Valgeirsdóttir
60 minutes Svanhildur Þengilsdóttir og Þóra Björg Magnúsdóttir


Halfmarathon

1 hour and 45 minutes Margrét Elíasdóttir og Sigurður Sigurðsson
1 hour and 50 minutes Alma María Rögnvaldsdóttir og Sigurður Þórarinsson
1 hour and 55 minutes Árni Gústafsson og Pétur Valdimarsson
2 hours Elín Reed og Hafdís Reinaldsdóttir


Marathoon

4 hours Guðmundur Guðnason og Sigurjón Sigurbjörnsson


The pace makers will line up in Lækjargata having a good gap between them. Those who are going fast will place themselves in the front and those who are going slower will place themselves further back. Runners are advised to place themselves behind the pace maker they plan to follow. On the following picture you can see the placement and color of the pace areas. Online registration has ended

The Islandsbanki Reykjavik Marathon 2012 will take place on Saturday the 18th of August.

Online registration for the run has now ended. Those interested in registering can register for the race at the EXPO, held on August 17th between 10:00 and 19:00. At the EXPO all participants will receive their race package as well as being invited to a Barilla pasta feast between 16:00 and 19:00. Click here for more information about the EXPO.
