Pace makers

In the 2017 Islandsbanki Reykjavik Marathon runners are offered help to reach their goals in the 10 km run, half marathon and marathon. Pace makers will run these distances at an even speed. They will be wearing marked vests and carrying balloons so that runners can follow them. 

The pace makers are all trained runners that will run at the following times:

10 km race

45 minutes    Gísli Páll Reynisson
50 minutes Margrét Elíasdóttir and Ragnheiður Sveinbjörnsdóttir
55 minutes Ásta Laufey Aðalsteins and Hlín Hjartar Magnúsdóttir
60 minutes Sif Jónsdóttir and Árni Gústafsson
65 minutes Jóhanna Eiríksdóttir and Karl Gíslason
70 minutes Pétur Valdimarsson and Tryggvi Haraldsson

Those who plan on running a half marathon in 2 hours can also hang around the pace makers with the 4 hour marks on them for the Marathon because the course is the same for the half marathon and the full marathon the first 18 km.

About Reykjavik Sports Union

The Reykjavik Sports Union was established in 1944 and is the association of sports clubs in Reykjavik. The Reykjavik Sports Union organizes six sports events every year: Íslandsbanki Reykjavík Marathon in August, Laugavegur Ultra Marathon in July, Suzuki Midnight Sun Run and WOW Tour of Reykjavik in June, WOW Northern Lights Run in February and WOW Reykjavik International Games in January.
