Pace makers

In the 2016 Islandsbanki Reykjavik Marathon runners are offered help to reach their goals in the 10 km run, halfmarathon and marathon. Pace makers will run these distances at an even speed. They will be wearing marked vests and carrying balloons so that runners can follow them. 

The pace makers are all trained runners that will run at the following times:

65 minutes Hafdís Reinaldsdóttir and Jóhanna Eiríksdóttir
70 minutes Pétur Valdimarsson and Tryggvi Haraldsson


1 hour og 35 minutes Guðmundur Guðnason and Friðleifur Friðleifsson
1 hour og 40 minutes   Birna Varðardóttir
1 hour og 45 minutes Sigurður Sigurðsson and Erlendur Sturla Birgisson
1 hour og 50 minutes Friðrik Ármann Guðmundsson and Svanhildur Þengilsdóttir

Those who plan on running a half marathon in 2 hours can also hang around the pace makers witht the 4 hour markst on them for the Marathon because the course is the same for half marathon and full marathon the first 18 km.

About Reykjavik Sports Union

The Reykjavik Sports Union was established in 1944 and is the association of sports clubs in Reykjavik. The Reykjavik Sports Union organizes six sports events every year: Íslandsbanki Reykjavík Marathon in August, Laugavegur Ultra Marathon in July, Suzuki Midnight Sun Run and WOW Tour of Reykjavik in June, WOW Northern Lights Run in February and WOW Reykjavik International Games in January.
