Timing is done by a ChampionChip Electronic timing. Each participant gets a disposable chip that is linked to his/her name and number. This data chip has to be securely fastened to the runners shoe to give correct results (in 10 km, 21 km and 42 km). The chip can only be used in Reykjavik Marathon although chips can be returned after the race to be recycled.

Check points will be placed at the start and finish areas to monitor each competitor's timing. Competitors failing to follow the course will be disqualified.
This enviromentally friendly chip is included in the entry fee and competitor´s can keep their chip as a souvenir if they like to. But if that is not the runners wish it is possible to give it back after the run. It is not possible to use it in other runs unless the chip is returned and programmed again for the next run.

What is a Champion Chip?

A Champion Chip is a miniature transponder in a specially designed housing marked with a unique identification number. The transponder is a waterproof glass capsule that contains a silicon chip and an energizing coil. The Champion Chip can be used in all weather conditions, wet and dry, cold and hot.

If you have your own chip and want to use it you can bring it to the information desk at the EXPO in Laugardalsholl on Friday August 21st.
